You've Got a Friend

One of Willow Brook’s most unique amenities is our Companion Services program. Housed at our Delaware Run campus, companions help our residents when their families cannot, taking care of nearly anything that needs done, and spending precious time with residents who may be grieving, lonely, or missing family and friends. Services are comprehensive: transporting to doctor appointments and staying at the appointment with the resident; light housekeeping; tidying rooms and closets; grocery shopping; spending time with a resident whose spouse is hospitalized; taking care of pets and plants during a vacation or extended absence; picking up prescriptions; drop-offs or pick-ups from the airport; and much more. Some residents schedule regular companion visits (such as weekly), while others choose one-off appointments. Sometimes visits are as simple as helping with mail, talking about life, taking a walk, fixing lunch, or just having the reassurance of a comforting presence and friend.

Independent residents are the bulk of the Companion Services clientele, along with residents in both assisted living and memory care.

At Delaware Run, there are nine companions. Just this week, companions logged 88 appointments with residents and a grocery trip! Companions fill a critical role in the holistic care of our residents, and can be hired for as little as 30 minutes or for weeks at a time, such as when a resident is on vacation. Perhaps most importantly, companions love what they do and feel blessed to do it.

Companion Services is especially helpful for families who are part of the sandwich generation (those adults caring for children in the home as well as overseeing or providing care for a parent or other older adult) and for families who have challenging work schedules or live out-of-town.

Our Willow Brook Companions can even take care of your pet, water plants, and check on your home while you are out of town. The Babbling Brook is delighted to highlight and support this wonderful team of compassionate professionals who live and embody the Willow Brook Way with such warmth and grace. You could not be in better hands! If you would like to know more, please click here or reach out to our Companion Services Coordinator, Melinda, at 740-201-5650.

  1. What a lovely service! I know the Companion Services are a vital part of Willow Brook. Jan is amazing and I’m sure the others are, too.
