The Full Sound Chamber Group performed to a delighted audience last night. They were the February offering for Willow Brook's monthly "Music at the Summit" series. The string quintet is made up of five Loritsch brothers. Shalem and Chesed played the violins, Chayah was on the viola, Racham on the cello, and Tisdqah the double-bass and piano. Astounding musicians, they brought the composers and the piano to life!
Another winner! This decorated table took the honors for most elegant presentation at the Delaware Area Chamber of Commerce annual meeting last evening. The table decorating contest is a long-standing tradition at the event, and the competition is fierce. Kudos to Julie Bardelang, Willow Brook Christian Village's events and dining room manager for the superb job - as always. We're so proud!
On those cold winter days, sometimes you just want to sit inside and read a good book. While Willow Brook has libraries on each campus, our offerings are expanded a hundredfold through our partnership with the Delaware County District Library. Every Thursday the library's bookmobile comes to either The Village or to Delaware Run. They bring a large variety of books, both in print and in several electronic versions. It seems that everyone has created a great relationship with the librarians who come in. They keep their eyes open for publications that they think you might enjoy, and it’s also a good time to take a minute and catch up with your neighbors and friends. See you Thursday afternoon!
When Don and Pat Young moved into Delaware Run they had a lovely view of the pond in the Village Square. Surrounded by a rustic fence draped in tiny lights, it was a serene, peaceful setting. But they wanted to take it up a notch by adding sound. Not any sound, but the natural, tinkling sound of water. They donated the funds and selected a fountain. At night the colors come on. Now the view, the sounds, and the colors make looking out the windows into the square an enchanting experience. Thank you, Don and Pat. Now some folks are thinking about gathering more funds for another fountain outside the Water's Edge restaurant. Let's go for it!
We are so very, very proud of Susie Fleak! She is the assisted living manager at Willow Brook Christian Village. She won the "Honoring Excellence" award from the Ohio Assisted Living Association. She won the award as "Outstanding Administrator Nurse Manager."
Janie Jordan, nurse manager at The Village, said "Susie is an incredible leader who manages by example, encourages staff, and frequently gives words of praise."
Winners of the award are nominated by their community and selected by a committee of the Ohio Assisted Living Association board of trustees.
Our regular guy, Eric McElhatten, has been off sick for a couple of months now, and everybody has been worried about him. So some folks made him a prayer quilt. It is soft, fuzzy, and comfortable/comforting and makes one want to just snuggle down into its warmth and softness. In this photo resident Genevieve Peterson hands the quilt over to our substitute mailman who offered to deliver it directly to Eric. Gotta tell ya - all three of Willow Brook's campuses are full of caring people like this. Loving, and friendly. This group of women has made more than a hundred of these quilts for their neighbors who have been sick. Couldn't be a better place to live!
The Willow Brook Singers and Rainbow Kids from Willow Brook Christian Village were honored to perform at the Ohio Statehouse Christmas Festival and tree lighting. Their performance took place on the staircase of the Rotunda. They were equally thrilled by their warm-up room, the beautiful and historic office of the Treasurer.
Students from Schultz Elementary School, where Delaware Run residents volunteer as tutors, made Thanksgiving placemats for the restaurant dining rooms at Delaware Run. Folks were delighted to see the kids come in and happy to receive their handmade gifts. Made Thanksgiving even brighter.
