Willow Brook and SourcePoint (formerly the Council for Older Adults) have a long history of working together in the community. As both Willow Brook and SourcePoint celebrate birthdays this year—Willow Brook turns 50, and SourcePoint is 30—we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share why we believe SourcePoint is one of the best things about aging in Delaware County.
1. The Enrichment Center. From art classes to water aerobics, there is a program for everyone at the SourcePoint enrichment center. There’s discussion groups, musical entertainment, day trips, and so much more. If you are 55 or older, take advantage of the many options available. Access to the enrichment center is free, as are many of the programs—plus there are virtual options for some offerings. If finances are an issue, there are often scholarships available to assist with programs that have fees.
2. Education and support. Do Medicare or insurance questions have you frazzled? SourcePoint can help. Sign up for a class to have a trained expert help you navigate the ins and outs of plans and coverage. There are also many supports available for caregivers. If you are caring for a spouse, parent, or other loved one, SourcePoint can help you with the support you need, when you need it, and can walk alongside you as your caregiving needs change.
3. In-home care and referrals. SourcePoint can refer you to places that help—whether it be Meals on Wheels, adult day care, medical transportation, or help with outdoor chores or housekeeping, SourcePoint should be your first call when you or a loved one age 55 or older is looking for any aging-related community resource. Information and referral specialists are available via phone weekdays from 8a-4:30p to help.
4. Nutrition services. SourcePoint operates Delaware County’s Meals on Wheels program, which delivers nutritious meals to older adults in their homes. Drivers for Meals on Wheels regularly check in on you or your loved one as they deliver meals, which is so important for older adults living alone. In addition, SourcePoint offers donation-based meals at community cafes in Delaware, Ashley, and Sunbury, and even provides fresh food vouchers to use at the farmers market (eligibility requirements must be met).
5. The SourcePoint Services Directory. Worth its weight in gold, the directory is an incredible resource for everything from medical providers to utility assistance to health and housing. You’ll want to keep the directory handy when you need a service provide, want to reach a government or social service agency, or find any other aging-related services. Hard copies of the directory are free, but if you can’t locate one, it can be accessed online here.

As luck would have it, Willow Brook and SourcePoint will have yet another chance to work together in just a few weeks, as we team up to co-sponsor Senior Citizens Day at the Delaware County Fair on September 20. In addition to free admission, we invite all those 55 and older to join us at the Top of the Stretch tent from 9a-1p for free coffee and pastries, bingo, live music, animal visits, and activities.
