Home for the Holidays? 4 Things to Look for While Visiting Senior Loved Ones
November 25, 2024 No Comments
Read More » If you’re just starting to consider a senior living community for yourself or a loved one, you may be overwhelmed with the amount of information coming your way. You may feel like the terminology is going over your head, or be confused about the way payment works. We get it! Before you sift through inches of brochures and marketing packets, sometimes it’s nice just to start with the basics.
That’s why we have compiled these eight frequently asked questions (and answers!) to get you started:
1. What services does Willow Brook offer?
Between our three Willow Brook campuses, we offer independent living, assisted living, transitional living, memory care, adult day care, skilled nursing care, short and long-term rehabilitation, and respite.
2. Can I downsize to a retirement community and still maintain my independence?
Absolutely. Particularly in our twin-single homes and independent living apartments, you have the ability to set your own schedule, come and go as you wish, sleep in, go on vacation, cook (or not!), and be as active as you want to be. Some residents still work, and many are actively involved in volunteering.
3. Is Willow Brook considered a CCRC or Life Plan Community?
Yes. A CCRC (Continuing Care Retirement Community), or life plan community, has amenities and services to support and nurture you throughout your retirement and healthcare journey. If you should need a higher level of care, you are able to stay at Willow Brook.
4. What if I am not sure what level of care is needed?
Resident care is our top priority. Our professional staff will talk with you one-on-one about your activity level, mobility, health issues, and any other current concerns. Our nurse will also conduct a wellness assessment to determine any care needs.
5. When should I start planning for retirement?
Now, if you have not already. It is never too early. Financial preparation is critical, as is taking into consideration your lifestyle needs and the amenities that are important to you as you age. Whether you are close to retiring or still years away, if you think Willow Brook may be in your future, please ask us about our waiting list.
6. How do I pay for services?
With a few exceptions, most of our services are private pay. Income, savings, proceeds from a home, and Social Security funds are all common ways to pay. Long-term care insurance, veteran’s benefits, and in some cases (such as rehabilitation), Medicare may cover or offset costs.
7. What makes Willow Brook different?
The short answer: love! We invite you to visit any of our communities to experience what we call “The Willow Brook Way.” Our quality of care, excellent staff, warm and loving atmosphere, and reputation in the community stands apart from the rest – and we cannot forget our award-winning culinary team! We are faith-based and not-for-profit.
8. I would like more information. What is my next step?

Are there other topics you feel are important to address in a publication like this? Please let us know in the comments! And current Willow Brook residents and families—is there anything you learned when you became part of the Willow Brook family that you wish you would have known beforehand? Is there something you think would be helpful for potential new residents to know right out of the gate? If so, please let us know in the comments and we’ll be sure to consider it for future publications.
