What to Look for in a Continuing Care Retirement Community

Read More » Here at the Babbling Brook, we love a good story. So when Stan, one of our independent living residents at Willow Brook at Delaware Run shared with us his journey to becoming a Willow Brook resident, we were all ears.
As it turns out, Stan has his in-laws’ real estate agent, Patt Crewe, to thank for getting him and his wife Mary to Willow Brook, but there were some detours along the way.
When Stan and Mary began their search for a retirement community, Willow Brook was their first stop, mostly due to Patt’s glowing description of the Willow Brook communities. They made a deposit at Willow Brook at Delaware Run in its early days—the sales representative had her office in one of the twin-single homes, and the main building was but a blueprint.
However, in 2008, before Willow Brook at Delaware Run had been completed, they withdrew their deposit, lured by a new building that had just been constructed, Wesley Ridge in Reynoldsburg. But that was not to be. The recession of 2009 hit and everything was on hold. Stan and Mary stayed put.
But Willow Brook is always a good idea, and 10 years later, Stan and Mary once again applied and were placed on the wait list. A few months later they were notified that a unit would soon be coming available. They sold their home and moved in shortly thereafter.
As it turned out, other folks from their neighborhood had also made the move to Willow Brook, so Stan and Mary felt right at home with friends Charlie and Jeannine, Wally, and Steve and Liz.
Stan and Mary are eternally grateful to that real estate agent, Patt Crewe, for planting and nurturing the Willow Brook seed.
Today, Stan and Mary are approaching five years as happy Willow Brook residents. They love the companionship of everyone, from friendships with other residents, to all of the wonderful amenities they receive here, and getting to know the staff in the process. They are also thankful for Larry Harris’s incredible leadership.
In recent years, their hobbies have held a special place in their hearts. Mary enjoys reading, crocheting, taking care of her plants, and socializing with friends, and Stan has a passion for photography, and fixing pianos and organs.
If you know Stan and Mary, then you know their Bichon Frise, Sophie. They rescued her from Small Paws, a national Bichon rescue, when she was 8.5 years old. Though they may be biased, Stan and Mary report that Sophie is sweet, incredibly smart, and “the best dog ever—we are so happy to have her.”
We hope it goes without saying that Willow Brook is blessed to have Stan and Mary as part of our family, and we are so glad that they listened to that very special real estate agent all those years ago.
Do you have a story about how Willow Brook came to be a part of your life? We’re listening! Please reach out to us in the blog comments or on Facebook, and we’ll be in touch.

My dad was there for a year before he passed in 2010. He had been a few other places before landing there and it was an answer to prayer. My dad had Alzheimer’s and was a bit difficult to handle at times. I was at my wits end and I feel like the love and care that he received were from the Lord. I’ve told my kids that when I need a place to go that I want to go to WillowBrook!
